Mission StatementVolunteers of America TRiO programs offers workshops, college tours, supplemental academic, and leadership activities to 560 first-generation and low-income high school students at our Lawndale, City site. The VOA Positive Minds Project: Generation Vote has a mission to provide resources and motivation to community youth regarding the importance of voting. According to the California Civic Engagement Project at USC, California's youth voting population is projected to have a continuous decline over the next 20 years. According to this study, youth is defined as eligible voters ages 18-24. The need to provide education, incentives, and support to the youth in our community is apparent. Our mission is to not only target the voting age youth but to educate and inspire pre-voters under the age of 18 to prepare and participate in civic engagement activities. Our slogan, " Youth Awakening Begins With YOU!
